Hi! I'm Len Cicio, an architectural and landscape draftsman, who works in colored pencils, pen & ink, oil pastels and aqua stick oil pastels. I always loved fantasy and syfy movies as a kid, and even now, as I've gotten older. This passion, translates into my art, and as a textile designer in NYC. I ride the NYC subways everyday.
To a lot of tourists, the subways can appear like a dirty, smelly and gritty place to be. For me, it's a world surrounded by gothic, abstract, and surreal images with wonderful design patterns. My goal is to bring out those vibrant colors and lines that are all hidden in their forms.
The subways move with dynamic patterns in eternal tunnel passageways that wind and turn. I love the city because there's art and life everywhere, if you take the time to notice.
The great songwriter Laura Nyro had a line from "New York Tendaberry," she says- "You look like a city but you feel like religion to me." That's how I feel about New York too! It's like a holy place with cathedrals of life and art revealing rich textures with stories, in colors that you can feel all around you.
My landscapes are inspired from Washington Heights and Inwood Park in Northern Manhattan, the last natural forest of NYC, where I live and experience nature that is raw and powerful. I want you to experience a supernatural landscape living on a new earth that is untouched by man.
For my fellow commuters and people viewing my site, I invite you to see a magical place that not only connects New Yorkers to their jobs, but to life, with family, friends and places that they love. I want to pull you into the Henry Hudson Bridge, where you feel yourself riding on those waters, and walking down that long winding path in Inwood Park.
Artists whose works continue to influence and inspire me are Vincent Van Gogh, with his use of strong vibrant colors, and Lyonel Feininger's towering architectural forms, aspects of which often appear to be viewed through cut-glass, or stained glass windows, highlighted by the sun. I also love Georgia O' Keefe, for being able to strip away all extraneous forms in her art and bare down to the essential essence of her objects.
The Creator stamped the colors of love into the life, movement and power of His creation. I see them in the subways and landscapes of NYC. My hope, is that you will experience a taste of that heavenly city on my site. You can also wear my art with my images, on silk and cotton scarves, printed on the finest fabric from Denmark. I hope my art can take you to that place, you've visited in your dreams and that always calls you home.
