My paintings and drawings of NYC art, look at the subways, architecture and landscapes of Mnahttan in a very unique way. I like to take fantasy with some abstract architecture and give a Syfy feel to my images. Buildings and underground subways infused with art deco and a surreal underworld. A safe maze that you can journey through and a heavenly city on this earth.
The 2nd Avenue Subway is in the process of being built in NYC.. This is my vision of the dynamic architecture and underworld journey that New Yorkers will experience.
The dynamic subway of NYC is like nothing else in the world. Here is the underworld of the 2nd Ave Subway still in the process of being built. I used colored pencils, wax art bars and touches of oil pastels to bring out the energy and movement of being taken through this incredible maze of patterns and colors. The line was originally proposed in 1919, but as a result of the Great Depression, started again in 1972, halted in 1975 due to the city's fiscal crisis and picked up again in 20017. The line will be between 96th St, and 2nd Ave., and the existing 63rd St. lines where it will connect to the BMT (Brooklyn Manhattan Transit), and the rest of the subway system. No news of opening yet, and as a native New Yorker, I can truly say that time is not of the essence!
As a draftsman I'm inspired by Van Gogh's brilliant art with forceful lines and colors, The paintings of the impressionist artists that gave light and life to their images and the towering buildings of German-American Expressionist Lyonell Feininger all enter my world of vision. There's a depth and perspective of time and space and rich tones and earth warm colors that ignite my subways and landscapes.
