My Cityscape drawings of NYC and Europe, transform their architecture and landscapes into my own unique vision. I use fantasy with abstract architecture combined, to give a surreal attachment to my work. Patterns and Designs incorporating influences of Native American, Aztec, Asian and Art Deco, create interesting geometrical structures, integrating a maze of rich designs and textures that you can journey through and never get lost in.
I took the original photograph I made, and using colored pencils, wanted to capture the detail and shadows of these rocks in my rendering. 11" X 14" done in colored pencils on paper. Shipping free in US. Dropped off at home with no signature. 3-5 days delivery
Rocks are incredibly difficult to draw as I found out. This scene is right at the bottom of the hill where The Henry Hudson Bridge is close nearby. My apartment building is standing above the hill where these waters are. I limited my color palette to just a few blues and grays and found the variation and colors to be amazing. Something as simple as rocks are beautiful to draw and Inwood Park has so many interesting varieties and scenes of it. Close by this area, is the soccer filed, the place where the business transaction was made by the Indians, to sell Manhattan. Peter Minuit, from the Dutch West India Company bought Manhattan from the Lenape or Delaware Indians for $24 woth of trade goods. Above this hill is The Indian Rd Cafe, where a roasted duck dinner will cost more than that!
As a draftsman I'm inspired by Van Gogh's brilliant art with forceful lines and colors, The paintings of the impressionist artists that gave light and life to their images and the towering buildings of German-American Expressionist Lyonell Feininger all enter my world of vision. There's a depth and perspective of time and space and rich tones and earth warm colors that ignite my subways and landscapes.
